Video Call Games

Over the course of quarantine, we discovered that when you’re on a voice call, it can sometimes be hard to play games, or even to know what games you can play. Because of that, we decided to make a list of 10 games that you can do over a voice call.

  1. Battleship: This is a classic game that most people should have in their house. To play this on a voice call, all you need is for both people to have the game with them. Then, each person sets up the board, and you can play. If you don’t have the game, you can print out a grid for it online, or if you can’t find that, all you need is some graph paper and a straight edge.

  2. Pictionary: This game does require that you be doing a video call instead of a voice call, but has the advantage of being playable with a group. In order to play this game, all you need is for everyone to have pencil and paper. If some people don’t have access to pencil and paper, then one person can draw for both teams.

  3. Two Truths and a Lie: This is an incredibly simple, verbal game. All you will need for it is a voice call. One person will tell two truths and one lie but will not tell the others which one is the lie. The other people will then try to guess which one was the lie.

  4. Truth or Dare: This is another fun game that works well in a group. Again, all you need for it is a voice call, although video would work better. One person will choose to either be asked a question or be dared to do something. Somebody else will either ask them a question or dare them to do something, according to their choice.

  5. Charades: This game requires a video call, but nothing else. One person will act something out, and everyone else will try to guess what it is.

  6. 20 Questions: 20 questions is a game where one person chooses an object, and then the rest of the group asks yes or no questions to figure out what it is. The only catch is that you only get to ask 20 questions before the person being questioned wins.

  7. Rainbow Race: To play rainbow race, you need to have a video call. The group chooses a color, and then everybody has to go find 3 objects of that color and bring them back. The first one back wins!

  8. Odd One Out: One person will say 4 words. 3 of them have to relate to one another, but the fourth should be a random one. The rest of the people who are playing have to guess the odd one out.

  9. Concentration: This game will require a little bit of set up. To start with, you’ll need to figure out an order for everyone to go in, then you’ll need a way to randomly determine who chooses the category (A die or a random number generator would work best). The person who is chosen picks a category, and then the next person says something that’s in that category (For instance, if someone said “car brands” the next person could say “Ford”) and so on down the list. If someone hesitates or repeats an answer that has already been said, they are out, and you start over.

  10. Chess: To play chess on a video call, you need two players, each with a chessboard and pieces. Set up the game on each board, and then the first player makes a move. The second player moves the same piece the first player moved, and play continues.

You should be able to play at least one of these games in any voice call.  We hope that this was helpful for you, and that you have fun playing these games with your friends!
