Ten Movies to Watch During Lockdown

  1. The Lord of the Rings. This is the excellent movie adaptation of a classic fantasy novel series by J.R.R Tolkien (if you read our “Top ten books to read during lockdown” post, we recommend it there). There are three movies in the theatrical release and six in the extended editions, so we recommend you get the extended editions for the additional content. Regardless of which one you use, this series is definitely one you don’t want to skip.

  2. The Princess Bride. Only one of the greatest movies of all time, the Princess Bride is an absolute classic, and you should watch it the first chance you get. Good for the whole family, this movie has an amazing blend of comedy, action, and romance that will keep everyone interested.

  3. The Avengers (2012). The Avengers is part of a greater storyline, but works well as a standalone movie as well. An exciting movie full of action, join the Avengers as they try to stop the army of the Chitauri from conquering the world.

  4.  Harry Potter. Harry Potter is a series of seven movies. We also like the book series, which we recommended in our “Top Ten Books to read during lockdown post.” The story follows a young wizard named Harry, who attends a magical school called Hogwarts.

  5.  Captain America: The First Avenger. This is the story behind Captain America, one of the most iconic of the Avengers. Set during WWII, this movie follows his creation and career as a soldier. Very action packed, you probably want to watch this before you watch The Avengers, as it contains useful back story.

  6. Star Wars. A thrilling science fiction set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars is a story about a young jedi and his quest to restore peace and justice to the galaxy. This is a 9 movie series, but you’ll want to watch 4, 5, and 6 first, then watch 1, 2, and 3, then 7, 8, and 9.

  7. Indiana Jones. There are four movies in this series, following Doctor Indiana Jones, a archaeologist who teaches at a college in between his archaeology-based adventures. He travels around the world and tries to find -- and keep -- the treasures that he finds, although there are a lot of people trying to steal them from him for their own personal gain. Join Indy on his many adventures!

  8. Wonder. Wonder is a movie about a boy named August Pullman who is starting middle school for the first time. As if that wasn’t hard enough, August has a condition called Treacher Collins Syndrome, which is a rare genetic disease that affects the growth of muscles and bones in your face. Wonder is the story of how he makes friends and gets through his first year of school.

  9. Batman (1966). One of the early Batman movies, this action film is full of funny lines and comedic scenes. Despite the rather low-budget special effects, it still manages to do quite a bit, and culminates in a fight-scene you will always remember.

  10.  Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This is a movie set in China. It is a little different from other movies because it is entirely spoken in Chinese (Don’t worry, there are english subtitles). Stunning scenery and awesome fight scenes make this a beautiful movie.
